Hello there everybody that is going to Killarney.
See below, and http://www.virtualboss.net/pf/kayaking/killarney.htm

Here is the phone number for Killarney Provincial Park 1-705-287-2900

Eric Slough, Todd Morgan, Jim Konczal, Neil Farrow, and I (Patrick Forrester) say they will be there for the Saturday launch.
I hate to take responsibility for anything. Since I want to see our Killarney trip go smoothly as possible, I am making an effort to get organized. Of course you do not have to go with any of my ideas.

Most importantly let me know that you agree with our travel dates and times,
The Toledo Group plans are to Leave Toledo Saturday 8-28 (hopefully rolling early like 6 am) and return to Toledo Tuesday 8-31 late pm.

Todd will leave Traverse City Area on Saturday 8-28 early am or Friday 8-27 pm. He plans to stay for a week, so he will stay when the Toledo group leaves.  Todd be prepared. The drive from Traverse is little longer than it looks. You have to drive 30 miles past killarney to get there. There is only 1 road into town.

Here are some details and proposals for everybody to think about.
If you have any ideas or objections, let me know.

In case you need to think of what to bring, you can look at my check list.
http://www.virtualboss.net/pf/BringOnTrip.htm
It has a lot of items on it that I will not bring.

#1  Permission to camp.
I called the Killarney provincial park and confirmed that we can get a permit to do overnight camping in Queens Land adjacent to the Park. This is about perfect. This will allow us to legally camp about anywhere we want. There is a nominal fee per camper per day and per car per day.

#2 Agenda.
Friday or earlier.  Pack everything to be ready for an early morning load up and departure. When you pack, try to make it so all you have to do is load your boat and launch.

Basic Agenda for Toledo Group.
Leave Toledo Saturday 8-28 early (I like the idea of leaving at 6 am or earlier) or Friday 8-27 pm.
Launch from Chickishing (spelling ??)  ( See x on map at http://www.virtualboss.net/pf/photos/kayaking/killarneymap.jpg ) access point Saturday with at least 2 hours of day light left to find a great camp site.  3 or 4 hours would be great.
Return to Toledo Tuesday 8-31 late pm.

#3 Items we only need 1 of that we should not duplicate.
    #1 Spare paddle
    #2 Frying pan
#3 Something good to drink. If we buy 1 large box of wine, we can remove the box and easily carry up to a liter or 2 of wine.  If everybody would like this, we can go for it. I usually carry 2 or 3 cans of beer also.
#4 1st Aid Kit. Somebody needs to assemble a 1st aid kit. This would be a good thing for Todd to do since he is going to be there the longest.

#4 Camp site.
There are a huge number of great camp sites. I have a set of islands in mind for day 1. The fox islands. Its about 4 or 5 miles from the Chikcishing (spelling ??) launch site. I will calculate gps coordinates in case somebody in the group can not make our Saturday launch.

#5 Food before and after launch.
As a rule of thumb, I like to have a great meal before launching, and a great meal right after loading up for the trip home. There is an incredible fishery with extremely fresh white fish and trout in a fast food type atmosphere in the town of Killarney.  If you do not like this, there are alternatives.
I think the thing to do is plan each days meal as a group, and then have each person bring their own munchies.
Munchies for lunch are good.

While we are out we need to plan the following meals.
Sunday Breakfast – Fresh Eggs and Bacon.  real eggs are good for several days.  Boiled Tea. & Juice. Bread.
Sunday Lunch – Peanut butter and Jelly / munchies.
Sunday Dinner – Think of something fresh because The next few days will be freeze dried.
Cucumber Salad with Garlic expressions.  Instant soup.
Monday Breakfast – Freeze Dried Eggs With Bacon Bits, with bread left over from Sunday lunch bp&j
Freeze Dried eggs are pretty good.  We can bring bacon bits & ketchup for those who want it.
Monday Lunch – Freeze Dried – Patrick has a good store of these already.
Monday Dinner – Freeze Dried – Patrick has a good store of these already.
Tuesday Breakfast - Freeze Dried Eggs With Bacon Bits

Misc Munchies
Nuts of different kinds, carrots, apples, grapes, granola bars, power bars, beef jerky.
1 Large bottle of 100% juice. ( not fructose sugar water / cool aid )
Coffee bags, Tea Bags.
Hershy Bars.

#6 Camping Equipment.
I have yet to be able to find a place to pound a ten steak in the ground in Queens Land. Bring steaks, but do not count on them. I use bungie cords to attach my tent to rocks. It works pretty good. I suggest bringing at least 6 bungie cords per tent. I have a huge collection of bungie cords and will bring them to make sure everybody has enough. If you need any get them from me at the launch site, cuz I am only bringing what I need on my kayak.

#7 Things that would be nice to bring.
VHF / Marine Radio.  I will bring 1 and I think Todd has 1 also.
Iperb – It is highly unlikle anybody has an iperb. But if you do have access to 1 bring it.

#8 General plans for paddling.
There is enough people there that you will be able to do what you want. I would like to get a great camp site at day 1 and stay there for our 3 nights.  We can do day paddles from there. Or we can take up our camp site each night. If we are organized, it will be easy. I am interested in paddling a lot every day, but I do not want to design a marathon that will take away from enjoyment of being in such a great place. I want to also find time for detailed exploring, camping, enjoying waves breaking in shallow water, ect. I am looking for the equivlent of 8 to 12 miles per day (full day) of paddling.

#9 Please feel free to contact everybody else in group and talk about idea and plans.
